Redness, swelling and pain in the corner of the eye area and slight swelling of half of the face should be considered to be caused by granuloma and acute cellulitis of the eyelids, which need to be treated with antibiotics and, if necessary, surgery.
1. Eyelid granuloma: Inflammation caused by acute bacterial infection of the eyelid glands and eyelash follicles inside the eyelid will lead to redness, swelling and pain in the eyelid area, as well as mild edema in the reactive half of the face.
2. Acute cellulitis of the eyelid: caused by widespread infection of the subcutaneous tissues of the eyelid, which will result in a high degree of edema and pain in the eye, while the inflammation may also spread to the surrounding tissues and cause edema on the same side of the face.
Both cases need to be treated with antibiotics, such as applying ofloxacin eye ointment and tobramycin eye ointment to the eyelid area, and taking oral amoxicillin clavulanate potassium capsules and cefadroxil capsules to promote the recession of the infection. For severe granuloma, surgical incision is needed to drain pus if necessary.
Patients with red, swollen, painful corners of the eyes, half of the face is slightly swollen, should promptly go to the hospital ophthalmology consultation, by the doctor to identify the cause of targeted treatment.
