Can gastric mesenchymal tumors heal on their own?

Gastric mesenchymal tumor is not a self-limiting disease and therefore does not heal on its own. Gastric mesenchymal stromal tumor, or gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), is a neoplastic disease of mesenchymal origin. It is currently believed that the development of the disease is associated with genetic mutations. Surgery and targeted therapy are the main treatment modalities for gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors. For resectable GIST, surgery is the primary treatment. The decision to give targeted therapy after surgery is based on the pathologic findings. Because GIST is characterized by dynamic non-directional differentiation, recurrence is still possible after surgical resection even in benign GIST, so all GIST patients should be followed up regularly. Individuals who are found to have gastrointestinal mesenchymal stromal tumor (GIST) should go to the hospital for treatment in time to avoid delay.
