Lateralized facial dystrophy is a unilateral atrophic disorder of the facial tissues that occurs in adolescents before the age of 20. The disease usually starts between the ages of 10 and 20 and is usually progressive and slow developing.
Lateral facial atrophy is a malnutritional disorder with an unknown etiology. Its main clinical feature is the chronic progressive atrophy of different tissues of the face, mainly the skin, subcutaneous adipose tissue, muscle, cartilage and bone, and in severe cases, it may involve other parts of the body and even hemiplegia.
The cause of the disease is not clear, but it is clinically rare and may be accompanied by symptoms of other systems. Hemifacial atrophy is a self-limiting disease, mostly develops before the age of 20, and enters the stabilization period after 5~10 years. Although it does not affect the life to a certain extent, it will affect the patient’s appearance to a certain extent.
It is recommended that patients with facial hemianopsia should seek medical treatment in time and under the guidance of doctors to control the condition and improve the symptoms.
