Childhood autism, also known as autism, is a pervasive developmental disorder that occurs in early childhood, usually starting before the age of 3. It manifests itself in three main categories of core symptoms, namely: impaired social interaction, impaired verbal communication, narrowed interests and repetitive stereotyped behavior, and is accompanied by varying degrees of mental retardation in about 3/4 of children with the disorder. The disorder was first reported by Kanner, an American child psychiatrist, in 1943. In his paper, he reported 11 children diagnosed with early childhood autism, and most of the common symptoms of these children could be generalized to the current criteria for diagnosing autism, a paper that is influential to this day. According to statistics, there is about 1 case of autism in every 250 children worldwide, mostly in boys, with a significant difference of 5-9:1 between the sexes. In China, since the first report of 4 cases of autism in children in Nanjing in 1982, there are now about 2 cases in 1000 children, with a total of about 500,000, and the incidence has tended to increase in recent years. The cause of autism is still a mystery. Despite extensive research by scientists and physicians around the world on genetic, neurobiological and psychosocial factors, it has not been possible to elucidate the cause and pathogenesis of autism in children, but it is at least seen as a broad developmental disorder with multiple biological causes. The following are a few shots of the lives of children with autism, allowing us to step into the world of star children. Shot 1: Playing with a small car toy every day, not attached to parents, never making eye contact 3-year-old Qingqing always likes to play with his small car toy in the corner by himself every day, and he is indifferent even when his mom and dad are next to him with chocolates or other new toys trying to coax him to play with them. He just played with his car, day after day. He didn’t respond when mommy and daddy had to go to work. On weekends, when mom took him to the park to play, he ignored the warm and friendly gaze and greetings. Lens 2: Language development disorder, language stereotypes and repetitive or odd language When Qiqi was more than 2 years old, he was taken to the hospital for a checkup because he still could not call his mom and dad, only to find out that the child was autistic. After Qiqi’s mom’s daily patient training, by the age of 3, he finally called his dad and mom, and could also say a few simple words. Qiqi’s parents were thrilled, but he could never communicate with language and could not distinguish However, he could not use language to communicate and could not distinguish between “you” and “me”, and often made jokes about “parroting”, for example, when his mother said “call me mommy”, he would repeat “call me mommy”. For example, when mom says “Call me mom”, he repeats “Call me mom”. Because of the language barrier, Qiqi sometimes uses actions instead of words to express herself. For example, if she wants to drink water, she will take her mother’s hand and lead her to the water fountain… Shot 3: Narrow interests, repetitive stereotypical behavior I don’t know from which day, 4-year-old Leilei likes to watch a shampoo commercial, but has no interest in other children’s favorite cartoons, turn on the TV if not this commercial, he will cry and fuss, no choice, so Dad had to record This commercial is played to him all year round. His little stool must be placed on the left side of the sofa, if anyone moves it, he must move it back. Leilei also likes to build blocks, building them up, overturning them, building them up again, overturning them again, over and over again, and can’t stop. Shot 4: Intellectual development is backward and unbalanced, can have special talents Won the U.S. Academy Award “Rain Man”, is a genius autistic people as the theme of the film, which the main character is an autistic person, but he has a genius math ability. In real life, Xiao Long, a 14-year-old child, is also a genius autistic child: he has no teacher, can play 10th grade piano music, can compose music on the computer, and can do mental arithmetic in two seconds. He learned the five-line score when he was seven years old, and after listening to the piano piece “To Alice” a few times, he could write out the score himself. But he didn’t know how to communicate with others, didn’t know how to integrate into society, he would pee in the street and didn’t know he was wrong. There is no specific drug that can cure autism, early detection, early diagnosis and early intervention is the key. The treatment of autism requires a comprehensive approach, including educational intervention, behavior modification, family therapy, medication, and dietary modification. The goal is to reduce the symptoms of the child, help the child maintain and develop social adaptation, self-care and independent survival skills, and integrate into society as much as possible. Each of us should be tolerant, understand them, accept them and help them, which is the greatest comfort for parents and families of children with autism.
