Tinea capitis is caused by fungal infection, and it is difficult for topical medications to reach deep into the hair follicles resulting in poor efficacy. The following five-word policy is often used for comprehensive treatment: 1. clothing: oral antifungal medications such as ashwagandha, itraconazole, or terbinafine; 2. application: application of antifungal creams such as ketoconazole cream, bifenazole cream, terbinafine cream, sulfur ointment, or 2% iodine tincture solution; 3. washing: washing the hair daily with ketoconazole lotion and sulfur soap for eight weeks; 4. shaving: shaving the hair once a week for eight weeks; 5. elimination: disinfecting the towels, combs, and pillow cases used by the patient by boiling them or soaking them in disinfectant solution.
