Oral cefixime for mumps does not work because cefixime is an antibacterial agent. Mumps is not a bacterial infection, but a respiratory infection caused by the mumps virus, which is mainly spread by droplets. The mumps vaccine can prevent mumps. The main clinical symptoms in patients are non-suppurative enlargement and swelling of the parotid glands, expanding forward, backward and downward, centered on the earlobe, first on one side and then spreading to the other side. It occurs mainly in children and adolescents, but rarely in adults. It can occur throughout the year, mainly in winter and spring, with a high incidence from February to May each year, and is likely to break out in crowded places, such as classrooms, military barracks and kindergartens.
