Does tonsil adenoidectomy reduce resistance?

Tonsils and adenoids are lymphoid structures and are located at the gateway to the upper respiratory tract.

For children under the age of 3, surgery is not easily considered, but rather medication and conservative treatment is the main focus.

As the immune system improves with age, the role of the tonsils and adenoids becomes weaker, and after the age of 10, the adenoids shrink; therefore, surgical removal does not reduce the immunity of the child. There are studies that show that removal of the tonsils causes a slight decrease in some globulins for a short period of time, but does not cause a risk of disease and recovers quickly.

Of course, it is not true that tonsillar adenoids are useless and should be removed directly. If surgery is indeed needed, there are some indications for surgical treatment, as well as a weighing of risks and benefits.
