Should I keep my tonsils or should I cut them?

Tonsils are one of the immune organs of the human body, and tonsillectomy should be strictly controlled for indications, especially for children, because the lymphatic tissue in the pharynx during childhood has a protective effect, and arbitrary removal will weaken the local immunity, but surgical removal must be considered only for those with irreversible tonsillitis. Because chronic tonsillitis is like a time bomb, it can easily form foci when the body is exposed to cold and humidity, general debility, endocrine disorders, autonomic dysfunction, or poor living environment, causing many serious diseases, such as cardiovascular system diseases, kidney diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic fever, cholecystitis, and toxic goiter.

Therefore, tonsillectomy should be considered in the following cases: 1. Recurrent acute attacks of chronic tonsillitis, or those who have caused parapharyngeal gap infections or peri-tonsillar abscesses.

2. Excessive tonsillar hypertrophy, which hinders swallowing, respiratory function and slurred speech.

3.Chronic tonsillitis has become a focal point causing lesions in other organs; acute inflammation of the upper respiratory tract and acute otitis media are clearly associated with tonsillitis.

4.Increased lymph nodes in the angle of the jaw for unknown reasons.

5. Unexplained hypothermia and other tonsillar-derived diseases.
