What’s wrong with the white particles that often come out?

What is the cause of frequent white particles?

Some patients often cough up granules, white or yellowish in color, half the size of a grain of rice, with a foul smell. Other patients find “white spots” in their throat when they look in the mirror because of throat discomfort, mistaking them for rice grains stuck in the throat. In fact, this is a manifestation of chronic tonsillitis, and the granules are pus plugs discharged from the tonsillar crypts.

The tonsils are made up of a large number of lymphatic follicles, and each tonsil has 8 to 20 crypts. When there is chronic inflammation in the tonsils, the crypt produces pus plugs made of a mixture of pus cells, fibrin, and shed epithelial cells. These pus plugs are found stuck at the mouth of the crypt or coughing out, and more pus plugs are unknowingly swallowed. Swallowed pus plugs can irritate the digestive tract and cause anorexia, indigestion, and even affect the development of young children. The toxins in pus emboli can also be absorbed locally, increasing the risk of complications such as nephritis, myocarditis, and rheumatic fever.

These pus emboli are also a cause of bad breath. Commonly, some patients with bad breath, frequent dental cleaning, or often take drugs to clear stomach fire, not only ineffective, but also vainly hurt the spleen and stomach. The reason for this is the failure to treat the cause.

When an abscess in the pharynx is found, or when there is bad breath and the cause cannot be found, you should visit the ENT department to rule out or treat chronic tonsillitis.
