Male DNA is present in a woman’s body during pregnancy, but no male DNA is left in a woman’s body after delivery. After pregnancy, the pregnant woman has free DNA of fetal origin in her blood, and half of the fetal DNA comes from the mother and half from the father, so once a woman is pregnant, she also has male DNA in her body. The genes of the fetus come half from the mother’s egg and half from the father’s sperm, and different combinations of genes are contained in both the egg and the sperm. As the fetus grows and develops, after it is delivered, the mother simply retains her own DNA in her body. Non-invasive DNA testing can also be done during pregnancy by taking blood from a pregnant woman’s vein to determine if there are any abnormalities in the fetus.
