There are several types of broad-based polyps

Broad-based polyps, according to pathologic typing, can be classified as adenomatous polyps, inflammatory polyps, hyperplastic polyps, and misshapen polyps. Wide-base polyps are also known as broad-based polyps, – nonterminal polyps, which primarily describe the morphological manifestation of a wider base where the polyp attaches to the tissue. Adenomatous polyps are the most common type of broad-based polyp in adults, and adenomatous polyps >2 cm have an approximately 50% risk of malignancy. Inflammatory polyps are most often caused by inflammatory tissue irritation and are usually secondary to tissue infection and inflammatory disease. The carcinogenic potential of broad-based polyps is significantly greater than that of pedunculated polyps, so polyps should be removed as soon as they are detected, even if they are small adenomas. As a result of the discovery of microadenomas, the cancer rate of small adenomas is now as high as 7.3%. Patients with broad-based polyps are advised to pay attention to the size of the polyp and the results of the pathologic examination, and to communicate with their specialists in a timely manner and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment. The diagnosis of broad-based polyps in the colon needs to be reviewed regularly.
