The main symptoms of failure after eardrum repair are as follows: 1. Patients do not feel that their hearing has improved. 2. Patients may experience tinnitus in the ear because of the presence of tympanic membrane perforation. 3. Patients may experience air leakage in the ear if they pinch their nose and puff, which is also a sign that the eardrum has not been repaired. 4. If there is an infection in the tympanic chamber, the patient may experience clinical manifestations such as pus flowing from the ear. Of course, water should flow within 1 or 2 months after tympanic membrane repair because the ear is not completely dry after surgery, and the presence of water in the ear at this time does not mean that the tympanic membrane has failed. If a patient feels that the tympanic membrane repair has failed, it is best to have a review with the surgeon and have an electronic tympanogram done to confirm the diagnosis.
