The main symptoms of degenerative flatfoot are various types of pain in the foot, such as dorsalis pedis fasciitis. When encountering foot pain in elderly patients in the clinic, the first thing to consider is whether or not the patient has experienced stress changes in the foot, and whether or not there is a tendency for flat feet to cause intractable pain. Generally with the foot stress changes, after a period of time can appear knee, hip arthritis, and even lead to lumbar spine lesions, such as disc herniation. If the patient reports foot pain with low back pain or knee pain, degenerative flatfoot should be considered first.
