Gadopentetate is not a therapeutic drug, but rather a contrast agent used in imaging, mainly in MRI examinations. If an abnormal signal is found in the brain on MRI scan, but the nature of the lesion cannot be determined, whether it is a tumor, inflammatory disease, or vascular disease, an MRI-enhanced scan can be performed. After gadopentetate glucosamine injection, if it is a tumor or inflammatory disease, there will be varying degrees of enhancement of the lesion, with the tumor being the most pronounced enhancement. Gadopentetate can be used to identify the nature of the lesion and to describe more precisely the size and extent of the lesion, as well as to distinguish the internal structures of the tissue and how the blood circulation differs between normal and pathologically altered tissues.
