There are many Chinese herbs for dispelling wind-dampness, and the commonly used ones are Radix Gentiana Macrophylla, Radix et Rhizoma Gentiana, Radix et Rhizoma Gentiana and Radix et Rhizoma Gentiana.
1. Gentiana Macrophyllae has the efficacy of dispelling wind-dampness, clearing dampness-heat, relieving paralytic pain, and subduing deficiency heat. It is used in the treatment of rheumatism-paralytic pain, paraplegia (inability to move one side of one’s limbs freely), soreness and pain of bones and joints, dampness-heat and jaundice, and tidal-heat of bone vapor (a bout of heat, feeling that the heat is penetrating from the inside of the bone to the outside). The adverse reactions and contraindications of this product are not clear.
2. Duhuo has the efficacy of dispelling wind and removing dampness, relieving pain through paralysis, and is used in the treatment of wind-cold and dampness paralysis, lumbar and knee pain, Shaoyin ambrosia and headache, and wind-cold and dampness headache, etc. It is not recommended for people with deficiency of yin and blood. It should be used with caution for people with deficiency of Yin and blood.
3. Wei Ling Xian has the efficacy of dispelling wind-dampness and opening the meridians and channels, and is used in the treatment of wind-dampness paralysis, numbness of the limbs, contracture of the tendons and veins, and unfavorable flexion and extension. Those who are weak in qi and blood should take this product with caution.
4. Wuga Pi has the efficacy of dispelling wind and removing dampness, tonifying the liver and kidney, strengthening the tendons and bones, and inducing diuresis and swelling, which is used for the treatment of rheumatism and paralysis, impotence of the tendons and bones, children’s delayed line, weakness, edema, foot (numbness of the legs and feet, aching, weakness, contracture, or swelling, etc.) and other diseases. The adverse reactions and contraindications of this product are not clear.
