How long can you live with diabetes on insulin?

The length of life of diabetic patients who are injected with insulin is related to factors such as the control of diabetes and the severity of complications. Diabetes is an elevation of blood glucose in the body that progresses to a certain level and causes other organ lesions, such as fundus lesions, gangrene in the limbs, and impaired kidney function. If a diabetic patient can control blood glucose in the ideal state after insulin injection and has not yet developed complications or has well-controlled complications, it usually will not affect the patient’s life expectancy. If patients have poor glycemic control after insulin injection and the complications are more serious, they can even develop into end-stage renal failure. The average time from the appearance of proteinuria to the patient’s death from uremia is ten years, which seriously affects the patient’s survival time. Diabetic patients should strictly control their diet, strengthen their exercise, use their medications correctly and regularly under the guidance of endocrinologists, and pay attention to monitoring their blood glucose levels as well as their physical condition.
