This is a common concern for all patients who have just had glaucoma. In the past, people lacked knowledge about glaucoma and often delayed treatment, resulting in blindness. Some people have heard that very few patients with glaucoma have painful blindness and have to have their eyes removed, so they are even more afraid of talking about glaucoma and have a fear and pessimism about it. Many people do not understand how glaucoma occurs, develops and how to treat it, mistakenly believing that glaucoma will have some early self-perception symptoms, and that it is not too late to treat the symptoms; or thinking that glaucoma can be cured by drugs or open surgery, or as long as a pair of suitable glasses can improve vision, there are also individuals who believe in other people’s misinformation, taking the so-called “panacea “The result is that it hurts the eyes. In all these cases, before talking about treatment, we would like to send patients a few points: (1) If you have glaucoma, especially if the census found or the doctor diagnosed early glaucoma, this is not necessarily a bad thing. “You may be much more fortunate than many people who do not know they have glaucoma, because the outcome and prognosis for glaucoma is very different between early and late treatment. (2) “If you are here, you will be safe”, and treat glaucoma with optimism. Although glaucoma may cause blindness, as long as it is detected early and treated reasonably, most people may maintain useful vision throughout their lives. Therefore, it is possible to overcome glaucoma and protect the visual function of the affected eye by changing negative emotions into positive attitudes, taking the initiative to learn more about the prevention and treatment of glaucoma, actively participating in self-care of glaucoma, and persevering with a strong will to fight the disease. (3) Glaucoma is mostly a lifelong eye disease, and you may have to deal with an ophthalmologist for the rest of your life. You should trust and respect every word of advice from your chosen doctor, learn to be kind to glaucoma, adapt to living with glaucoma, get used to daily medication and regular follow-up check-ups once a week, once a month or several times a year. Only with this mental quality of “fighting a long war” can we benefit from it for the rest of our lives and minimize the possible damage to visual function caused by glaucoma.
