Spleen qi deficiency refers to deficiency of spleen qi and failure of transportation, which is characterized by low food intake, abdominal distension, loose stools, weakness, lack of energy and laziness, yellowish complexion (yellowish color without luster), and white fur on the tongue, and can be treated with Sijunzi Tang, and cold, sticky, and indigestible foods are prohibited during the period of taking the medication.
Spleen yang deficiency refers to deficiency of spleen yang (deficiency of yang qi in the spleen), loss of warmth, and internalization of cold, with low food intake, abdominal distension, abdominal pain, preference for warmth and heat, scanty stools, fear of cold, and a pale and fat tongue with teeth marks, etc. It can be treated with Radix Rehmanniae Pills. People with serious chronic diseases such as hypertension, heart disease, liver disease, diabetes, kidney disease, etc. should take it under the guidance of a physician.
Dampness-heat embracing the spleen syndrome refers to the internal embodiment of dampness-heat and loss of spleen’s healthy transportation, with abdominal distension, loss of appetite, bitter mouth and sticky mucus, thirst without much to drink, short and yellowish urine, heavy limbs, red tongue and yellowish greasy moss as the main clinical manifestations, which can be treated with San Ren Tang. It is not suitable for those who have yellow and greasy tongue and whose heat is more important than dampness.
