Topical medications that can be used to remove a wart include salicylic acid, retinoic acid, pindamycin, and vitamin D3, as well as imiquimod cream and 5-fluorouracil ointment. A wart, known as common warts, is caused by a human papilloma virus infection. A common medication that can be used is salicylic acid, and a 40% salicylic acid hard cream applied to the wart for a few days helps to scrape the wart away. Interferon is injected into the root of the wart, and the wart can usually be scraped off after a week. Pindamycin is used for refractory common warts and vitamin D3 is used for patients with multiple warts. Other medications such as imiquimod cream, 5-fluorouracil ointment, and phthalidomide cream can also be used to treat common warts. If warts are present, you should go to the hospital for treatment and follow your doctor’s instructions when using the above medications.
