Medicinal value of horseshoe fern

Horseshoe fern is the rhizome of Fujian rosette fern of the rosette fern family, and the rhizome with petiole is used as medicine, which has the effect of clearing heat, cooling blood and detoxifying. Horseshoe fern is light in flavor and cool in nature, and is attributed to the heart and lung meridians. It is mainly used in treating swelling and pain of bruises, bleeding from trauma, poisonous snake bite, abscess in cheek, breast swelling and pain, sores and carbuncle, joint swelling and deformation, post-partum abdominal pain, excessive menstruation, heartburn and insomnia. Externally, it can be pounded and applied externally or powdered and spread to treat snake bites. Horseshoe fern can be used with mulberry leaf to treat fever and headache, cough, yellow and thick phlegm, dry mouth and sore throat; with amaranth, to treat furuncles and carbuncles on the skin with heat and poison; with cypress leaf, to treat coughing up blood, nosebleed, blood in stool and uterine bleeding.
