A small arthroscope solves a big problem

With the continuous development of arthroscopic technology, ankle arthroscopy has gradually become an important treatment tool for foot and ankle joint diseases. Since the Department of Orthopedics of Union Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (the only national clinical key specialty of orthopedics in Hubei Province) has carried out ankle arthroscopy, it has treated a large number of patients with foot and ankle diseases, with light postoperative pain, few complications and fast recovery, achieving good surgical results and receiving good comments from the majority of patients. Professor Duan Deyu of the Foot and Ankle Surgery Center of the Department of Orthopedics of the Union Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology introduced that with the continuous maturation of ankle arthroscopy technology, arthroscopy is applicable to a large number of problems in the diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle joints, including joint swelling, pain, stiffness and popping, etc. It has good diagnostic value especially for diseases with unclear diagnosis. Ankle arthroscopy can accurately determine the integrity of the articular cartilage and the synovial structure of the joint, and can be used during surgery. Professor Duan also talked about the obvious advantages of ankle arthroscopy over previous open surgery for diseases such as osteoarthritis, transarticular surface fractures, synovitis, impingement syndrome, joint infections, intra-articular free bodies, and unexplained swelling and pain, and that this minimally invasive procedure has fast recovery and few complications after surgery. Recently, the center purchased a full set of ankle arthroscopy equipment from Schluter, including 2.7mm lens and its supporting sheath, non-invasive traction equipment for ankle joint, etc. This has further improved the level of ankle arthroscopy treatment in the center. Duan Deyu, Department of Orthopaedics, Wuhan Union Hospital The foot and ankle surgery center of the Union Orthopaedic Department has carried out minimally invasive surgery for ankle osteoarthritis or traumatic arthritis, surgical treatment for peri-ankle avulsion fractures, subtalar joint braking for flat feet, combined orthopaedic surgery for moderate to severe bunions, multiple repair surgeries for acute or old Achilles tendon injuries, and comprehensive treatment for acute and chronic osteomyelitis of the foot and ankle.
