Minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery for gluteal myoclonus

Gluteal Muscles Contracture (GMC) is a common disease characterized by abnormal squatting, sitting and walking postures due to fibrosis of the gluteal muscles and their fascia, which causes contracture of the hip joint in abduction and external rotation. The main manifestations of this disease are walking in an outward-facing position, not being able to cross one’s legs, not being able to keep the legs together when squatting, and possibly bouncing of the hip joint. Conservative treatment is not effective, and once diagnosed, surgery should be performed as soon as possible. Although the traditional open surgery is effective, it has a wide range of surgical stripping, large trauma, more bleeding, more postoperative exudation, and is prone to hematoma and infection, which affects the wound healing; at the same time, due to the heavy postoperative pain, it is difficult for some patients to carry out effective functional exercises, which also affects the efficacy of the surgery. Arthroscopic release of gluteal contracture using plasma radiofrequency technology has the advantages of less trauma, faster recovery and less pain. This minimally invasive surgical method requires only two small incisions of 0.5cm, which can completely release the contracture tissue. It also has good surgical effect on severe contracture because it can be released under direct vision under arthroscopic surveillance, which is safer and more complete than the release of open surgery. Because the incision is small and the plasma device can stop bleeding while releasing, the patient has little pain after the operation and it is not easy to form hematoma, which is incomparably superior to open surgery. What’s more, since patients with gluteus contracture are mostly scarred, the large incision of open surgery will cause a large scar, which will affect the appearance. Arthroscopic release surgery is a minimally invasive procedure with very small scars, a true cosmetic incision, and the preferred method for those who have high demands on their appearance.
