Who is a good candidate for knee arthroscopy?

What is arthroscopic surgery? Arthroscopy is an advanced orthopedic technique developed in recent years. Arthroscopy can be used to observe and diagnose diseases in the joints, and more importantly, under arthroscopic surveillance, a variety of arthroscopic instruments can be used to treat a wide range of lesions in or around the joints. Arthroscopy is more accurate than visual observation of intra-articular lesions after cutting the joint, because it is possible to observe intra-articular lesions on a monitor by magnifying the image on the inside of the joint through the use of an illuminated lenticular metal tube inserted into the joint cavity by cutting 2 to 3 incision holes of about 5 mm around the joint. At the same time, instruments for examination or surgery are inserted through another small incision hole, and a comprehensive examination and surgery are performed under TV surveillance. Arthroscopy is known as “putting your eyes and fingers into the joint”, which means that you can have an examination and surgery at the same time, and the examination and treatment can be performed at the same time. The most commonly used arthroscopic procedures for the treatment of osteoarthritis are: arthroscopic joint cleaning; arthroscopic joint planing; arthroscopic joint drilling; and arthroscopic subchondral bone microfracture. Advantages of arthroscopic surgery Small incision, beautiful, to avoid irritation caused by scarring of the joint surface and movement site; minimally invasive surgery, less pain, less postoperative reaction, fewer complications; early postoperative activities and use of limbs, to avoid long-term bed-ridden complications; reduce caregivers and costs, shorten the length of hospitalization; basically does not affect the musculature around the joints, postoperative functional exercises can be carried out at an early stage, to prevent long-term immobilization caused by disuse. Preventing the waste and complications caused by long-term fixation of the joints; looking at a more comprehensive and more accurate than cutting the joint surgery, the diagnosis of difficult joint diseases, as well as injuries and pains plaguing the patients for many years, can often achieve immediate results. Which patients are suitable for knee arthroscopy? First of all, it should be noted that for patients with osteoarthritis, different ages, different degrees of pathological changes, and the severity of the patient’s symptoms are all factors that must be taken into account in the choice of treatment. Simply put, in early osteoarthritis, conservative treatment is the mainstay, with regular medication, quadriceps functional training and other treatments as prescribed by the doctor. In mid-stage osteoarthritis, the joints are swollen from time to time, with frequent pain and symptoms of strangulation, which affects the life to some extent, then arthroscopic treatment is the best choice. In advanced osteoarthritis, where significant deformity has developed and symptoms continue unabated, then joint replacement surgery should be undertaken.
