There are physiologic and pathologic causes of anterior chest wandering pain. Pathologic causes include intercostal neuritis, costochondritis, cardiac diseases, etc. Treatment includes medication and surgery. 1. Physiological causes: long-term mental stress, lack of sleep, anxiety and depression may lead to anterior chest pain, and the patient has no organic disease. Active participation in physical exercise, good habits of work and rest, and maintaining a healthy state of mind can alleviate the symptoms to a certain extent. 2. Pathologic causes (1) Intercostal neuritis is characterized by band-like pain in the chest along the intercostal nerves, aggravated by deep breathing. Treatment includes medication such as carbamazepine, methylcobalamin, acyclovir and so on, and intercostal nerve block and intercostal neurectomy are feasible in serious conditions. (2) Costochondritis mostly manifests as pain, pressure, swelling and discomfort in the upper chest, accompanied by infection, redness, swelling and heat pain in the local skin. Generally, rest, oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, etc., and antibiotics such as cefprozil can also be applied to fight infection. (3) Heart diseases such as pericarditis, angina, etc. Due to the high risk of heart diseases, patients should actively seek medical treatment and follow the doctor’s instructions to use medication, commonly used drugs include metoprolol, cefuroxime, nitroglycerin, etc., and sometimes even require surgical treatment. When patients experience discomfort such as chest wandering pain, they should go to the hospital immediately.
