The biggest difference between a cystic ovarian mass and a cystic ovarian mass is that the nature of the ovarian mass may be different. If the ultrasound suggests a cystic ovarian mass, it means that the fluid within the cyst is purely liquid. Usually the possibility of benign ovarian cystic masses is very high and the next step of treatment will be decided based on some other ancillary test results. If the ultrasound suggests a cystic ovarian mass, the possibility of ovarian cancer is very high. The typical clinical ultrasound imaging of ovarian cancer is suggestive of a cystic mass in the ovary. Therefore, if a cystic ovarian mass is indicated, tumor markers and other tests must be performed before further evaluation of possible metastatic lesions in other areas. If a cystic solid ovarian mass is present, it must be aggressively treated surgically, which still needs to be decided according to the different conditions of the patient. Therefore, the major difference between cystic and cystic solid ovaries is that the nature of the ovarian masses may be different.
