The treatment of depression cannot be solved by surgery at present, because depression is a mental illness caused by the interaction of genetic and psychological factors, and stress plays a big role in inducing the onset of depression, and there is no so-called lesion, so surgery cannot be performed. At present, the main treatments for depression are psychotherapy, medication, medication combined with psychotherapy, and MECT. As for the choice of treatment, the degree of depression has to be evaluated. For mild depression, psychotherapy or herbal medicine can be chosen, as well as western medicine. For moderate depression, medication can be used, mainly western drugs, such as SSRIs, SNRIs, or medication combined with psychotherapy. For severe depression, the main treatment is medication and MECT. If depression is accompanied by strong suicidal behavior, MECT treatment is recommended.
