High blood lipids are a factor in the development of many diseases, so is it better to have lower blood lipids? The answer is no. According to foreign reports, the lower the total plasma cholesterol, the greater the likelihood of dying from other diseases. Although the reason why the mortality rate does not decrease but increases below a certain level of blood lipids is still unknown, one thing is clear, that is, cholesterol and triglycerides are essential nutrients, not too much and not too little, too much or too little can cause adverse consequences. In addition, cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood are combined with blood proteins to form HDL and LDL, respectively. Among them, HDL can prevent atherosclerosis, while LDL is the culprit of cardiovascular disease. If the increased cholesterol in the blood is only caused by a higher amount of HDL, it is not necessarily a bad thing and does not require treatment. On the contrary, even if total serum cholesterol is not very high but LDL is too high, it should be treated aggressively. Therefore, we should take care of our own health, go to the hospital for regular check-ups, and seek help from experienced doctors if we find problems, rather than taking matters into our own hands.
