How to treat high red blood cells

High red blood cells can be divided into physiological elevation and pathological elevation, compensatory elevation of red blood cells is seen in long-term hypoxia, through the treatment of primary disease, oxygen inhalation to correct hypoxia to reduce red blood cells; pathological elevation is seen in the true erythrocytosis, the treatment includes bloodletting therapy, medication and so on.

1. Compensated erythrocyte elevation: seen in people living in highland areas, long-term hypoxia, and patients suffering from chronic respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, smokers, etc., through the treatment of primary diseases, oxygen therapy, smoking cessation and other corrective hypoxia, erythrocytes can gradually decline.

2. Pathological elevation of red blood cells: seen in true erythrocytosis, the method of lowering the red blood cells are venous bloodletting method, suitable for patients less than 50 years old and no history of embolism; drug therapy commonly used hydroxyurea, can also be used in α-interferon, leucovorin and other drugs.

If the patient’s red blood cells are high, it is recommended that the patient seek further medical attention to clarify the cause of the disease and follow the doctor’s instructions.
