Cholera and acute gastroenteritis are not the same disease. Although both have clinical symptoms of diarrhea, there are differences in their causes, causative factors, and treatment.
Cholera is a kind of intestinal infectious disease belonging to category A infectious disease, which is spread by Vibrio cholerae contaminating water and food. Clinically, the onset of the disease is relatively rapid, accompanied by violent vomiting, excretion of large amounts of rice-slop-like intestinal contents, and in severe cases, even symptoms of dehydration, muscle spasms, oliguria and anuria.
Treatment should be strictly separate isolation, and need to strictly disinfect the patient’s excreta, vomit, and should also be given rehydration, ciprofloxacin and other antibacterial and symptomatic treatment.
Acute gastroenteritis is an acute inflammation of the gastrointestinal mucosa, which is not an infectious disease and is usually caused by bacterial or viral infections due to factors such as unclean diet. Clinical manifestations are mainly abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and fever. Treatment also does not require isolation and is usually based on giving anti-infective treatment such as norfloxacin as well as rehydration therapy.
If the above symptoms exist, it is recommended to go to the hospital as soon as possible for treatment.
