How long does it usually take to recover from bone marrow edema of the knee

Recovery from knee bone marrow edema usually takes 2 to 3 months, but individual physical fitness and the degree of knee injury will affect the recovery time. Knee bone marrow edema refers to the pathological changes of bone matrix edema, fibrous proliferation, and inflammatory cell infiltration due to trauma, infection, tumor, and other factors, resulting in abnormal signals on MRI images. For bone marrow edema caused by trauma, it is advisable to take bed rest, local hot compresses to reduce swelling, and oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g., diclofenac) can be used to treat the pain when it is more obvious. If the trauma is mild and the quality of oneself is good, it usually takes 2~3 months to recover. Inflammatory diseases such as osteomyelitis, tumors, etc. can compress the bone tissue and cause bone marrow edema, treatment should be given antibiotics (e.g. levofloxacin) or surgical resection of the tumor, etc., and the recovery time in this case may be longer. When bone marrow edema of knee joint occurs, the cause of the disease should be clarified and standardized treatment should be carried out under the guidance of doctor. The above medications should be used under medical supervision.
