Femtosecond laser myopia surgery can be performed at age 45 if there are no contraindications. A femtosecond laser is a laser that operates in pulses lasting only a few femtoseconds, or parts per trillion, to effectively correct myopia. In general, femtosecond surgery can be performed on anyone over the age of 18 and under the age of 45, who does not have any serious eye disease, whose myopia has recently stabilized, and whose corneal thickness allows for the procedure to be performed. The surgery should also exclude systemic connective tissue diseases and severe autoimmune diseases. In general, contact lens wear should be stopped for more than 1 week before surgery. Femtosecond surgery is relatively safe, and at age 45 it is recommended to undergo femtosecond laser myopia surgery under a doctor’s evaluation if the need arises.
