There is no direct causal relationship between the occurrence of retinal fissures in the two eyes. However, often the underlying retinal and vitreous conditions are more consistent in both eyes, such as the presence of high myopia, or other retinal pathologies. So when a retinal fissure is present in one eye, the other eye should be routinely examined.
