Tonsillectomy sequelae should be referred to as post-tonsillectomy complications. They mainly include bleeding, secondary infection, dryness of the pharynx and loose teeth.
1.Bleeding. The most common sequelae of tonsillectomy is hemorrhage, including primary hemorrhage and secondary hemorrhage, primary hemorrhage is mainly related to postoperative adrenaline “transient” vasoconstriction, secondary hemorrhage is mainly due to the rich blood supply of upper and lower extremities of the tonsil fossa, intraoperative damage to the nearby blood vessels resulting in contracture, postoperative vasodilatation causing traumatic bleeding.
2. Secondary infection. Postoperative infection is less likely, but for patients with a history of respiratory tract infection before surgery, oral hygiene should be paid attention to after surgery.
3. Pharyngeal dryness. Some patients may experience prolonged dryness in the throat area, mainly due to the increase in the pharyngeal cavity, which increases the gas flow.
4. Loose teeth. Mainly occurs in children, due to the use of surgical openings rely on incisors fixed, part of the children’s milk teeth are easy to loose during surgery.
