Do you have to take off all your clothes for appendicitis surgery?

Appendicitis surgery requires full removal of clothing.
The surgical area is sterilized when the surgery is done. The surgical area is defined as a circle of 30 centimeters radiating from the incision. Within these 30 centimeters, the area needs to be sterilized, to prevent the surgery from becoming infected. Therefore, patients are not allowed to wear clothes.
Wearing clothes will affect the disinfection area, and the perineal hair needs to be shaved, which is called skin preparation, to minimize the risk of infection during and after the surgery. The preparation is relatively quick, and then a surgical towel is applied to expose only the surgical site and the anesthesia site.
Currently, there are two main forms of appendicitis surgery, the traditional open surgery and the newer minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery. However, either form of surgery requires the surgical area to be sterilized and therefore requires full removal of clothing.
Because undressing for surgery is a routine requirement, don’t be shy either. It is recommended that you visit the general surgery department of your regular hospital in a timely manner.
