Many patients with epilepsy come to the clinic and the first thing they say is that I have had epilepsy for many years and it is troublesome to take medication, can I have surgery to cure it? The indications for surgery include the following: 1) ineffective after systematic medication; 2) the presence of a more definite epileptogenic lesion; 3) the willingness of the family to request surgery. It is important to note that a significant percentage of patients still require medication after surgery to maintain their condition, not that they do not take medication after surgery, and there is no cure.
