It is possible to deafen the ear by slapping it, mainly related to tympanic membrane trauma.
Tympanic membrane trauma is mostly caused by indirect or direct external injuries, such as palm striking the ear, diving, toothpick stabbing the eardrum, and foreign objects in the external ear canal. Therefore, slapping the ear may cause perforation of the tympanic membrane in some patients. After rupture of the tympanic membrane, the patient will suddenly experience ear pain, immediate hearing loss with tinnitus, and a stuffy feeling in the ear.
Some tympanic membrane trauma patients may also experience a small amount of bleeding from the external auditory canal, blowing the nose and ear canal with a leaky sound, and other symptoms, which have an impact on the patient’s quality of life and health.
It is recommended to avoid risky behaviors such as slapping and pulling out ears with toothpicks. If you experience discomfort after slapping, you should seek medical attention.
