As a traditional physical therapy in Chinese medicine, acupuncture has the effect of communicating with the internal organs, unblocking the meridians, regulating yin and yang, promoting the normalization and balance of the functions of the internal organs, meridians, tissues and organs of the human body, thus unblocking the meridians, promoting the operation of human qi, assisting the transformation of qi and blood from the internal organs, strengthening the immunity of the human body, improving the mood and relieving the symptoms. It has an important role in the treatment of tumor diseases, especially in analgesia, regulating the stomach and intestines, unblocking the gastrointestinal qi flow, cleansing the stagnation of the intestinal organs, treating cancer-caused fatigue, and protecting the functions of vital organs. Combined with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, it can reduce the toxic side effects and improve the quality of survival. According to Chinese medicine, the occurrence of tumor is closely related to the deficiency of body’s positive energy and external attack of poisonous evil. Due to deficiency of vital energy, dysfunction of internal organs, internal injury to the seven emotions, external poisonous evil, resulting in abnormal operation of qi, blood and fluid, phlegm, stasis and poisonous evil in the body and prone to cancer. Acupuncture treatment emphasizes on functional regulation, but does not have enough control on the lesion itself. The development of modern science has expanded the precision of tumor treatment. The development of imaging disciplines and percutaneous puncture techniques have provided a new field of tumor treatment using “needles” as the medium.
