How to read hcmv-dna results

HCMV-DNA results are categorized into qualitative and quantitative tests. Qualitative test results are categorized as negative or positive, with a positive result indicating possible HCMV virus infection; quantitative test results with HCMV-DNA >2.0 log10 copies/L are considered positive.

HCMV is human cytomegalovirus, which is widely infected in the population, mostly asymptomatic hidden infection, immunosuppressed individuals, infants and young children may develop pneumonia, hepatitis, mental retardation, sensory neural deafness and so on.

Human cytomegalovirus is a DNA virus, and HCMV-DNA can be detected to diagnose and treat human cytomegalovirus infection. The higher copy number of HCMV-DNA or the presence of copy number in dynamic monitoring suggests that there is a high probability of active infection, and a positive serum or plasma sample of HCMV-DNA is the evidence of active infection in the clinic.

HCMV can be transmitted through droplets, urine, placenta, etc. Most of them are latent infections, but immunocompromised people or newborns with active HCMV replication become overt infections, which involve multiple organs, such as heart, liver, lungs, kidneys, etc. Antiviral treatments are mostly used in clinical practice.

HCMV-DNA results should be diagnosed and treated by a professional doctor, not self-medication.
