Is mononucleosis serious?

Clinically, mononucleosis mostly refers to infectious mononucleosis, which is mostly caused by EBV infection, and most of them can be self-healed.
Infectious mononucleosis is a disease in which the monocyte-macrophage system is stimulated to proliferate after the human body has been infected by EBV. It is mainly manifested by irregular fever, pharyngitis, enlarged lymph nodes, etc., and can be combined with hepatosplenomegaly, and the proportion of peripheral blood lymphocytes and heterogeneous lymphocytes is increased.
Most patients have a self-limiting course, i.e., most patients can recover spontaneously and have a good prognosis. Very few patients have recurrent or persistent symptoms and develop chronic active EBV infection, and the prognosis is poorer if the patient is immunodeficient.
Patients should take adequate rest, drink plenty of fluids, avoid exertion, and avoid strenuous exercise for 1 month. Specific diagnosis and treatment should be carried out under the guidance of a physician.
