The best time to operate for congenital cataracts

Congenital cataract surgery should be performed as early as possible, and the best time is within 2 months after birth. Surgery at this time can ensure that the eyes are stimulated by external light after surgery, thus promoting the development of retinal macular function and preserving visual function. Congenital cataract surgery should be performed no later than 3~4 years old, and should be performed as soon as vision is found to be below 0.2. If it exceeds 6 years of age, it will cause amblyopia that is difficult to recover. Whether IOL implantation can be performed during surgery should be determined on a case-by-case basis. The standard implemented in our hospital is that children over 2 years old can be implanted at the discretion of the hospital. (This article is published with the authorization of Dr. Hongtao Wang.)
