Raised scars are clinically called keloids. The appearance of keloid scars is not a terrible disease, but is actually a physical problem, and some patients can even have a tendency to gather in families. A keloid is actually a benign swelling of the skin caused by excessive proliferation of the organism to repair skin damage. It is not a health hazard, usually rising above the skin surface and repairing much more than the previous occurrence of skin damage, and some can even become very large, spreading around like a crab claw with a smooth shiny surface, and patients often experience mild itching. Keloid scars do not need to be treated if they do not appear in some frequently moving joint areas, and patients are not clinically advised to treat them by simple and brutal surgical excision.
