The skull is a very hard piece of the human skeleton, but the skull is not indestructible. Some people have suffered severe skull defects due to external force. Skull defects, will inevitably affect the aesthetic image, while the patient’s intracranial tissue lacks the protection of the skull, it is easy to be attacked by the outside world. In view of all these, once the skull defect occurs, it is necessary to do skull repair surgery in time, so as to avoid bigger problems. Furthermore, when a skull defect occurs, the patient may experience frequent dizziness and headaches, and may be afraid of loud noises and vibrations. Other patients may suffer from lack of concentration, memory loss, and even speechlessness and depression. Therefore, cranial repair surgery should not be delayed. Titanium mesh material is generally used in most hospitals to perform skull repair surgery on patients. Titanium mesh is a more advanced material than animal bone, light apatite, and calcium phosphate cement, which were previously used. However, there are still some problems with titanium mesh material, and there are still many shortcomings and complications, such as patients’ postoperative sensitivity to hot and cold reactions, local chronic pain, and more subcutaneous fluid accumulation; after the repair surgery, it affects the patients’ acceptance of CT, MRI and other medical examinations; chronic cutaneous ulcers, stress perforation resulting in failure of cranial bone repair; the temporal fossa, zygomatic arch, eyebrow frames, and other irregular facial and cranial parts of the repair of the appearance of the cosmetic effect of the lack of good and so on. At present, we use the latest polyether ether ketone material, also called PEEK material, can better solve these problems. This PEEK material can be three-dimensional molding, precise fit, in addition, this is a bionic material, can be highly compatible with the autologous skull, and in terms of elasticity, heat conduction, hardness, stability, etc., and the performance of the autologous skull, especially for children patients, can be better adapted to the autologous cranial growth and development.
