There are about 300 million carriers of hepatitis B virus in the world. In China, there are about 120 million people, and there are 30 million people with chronic hepatitis B in the society, and about 750-1.2 million pregnant women are hepatitis B virus carriers every year. The so-called “cryptogenic” cirrhosis and liver cancer occur in the prime of life. Hepatitis C is more often caused by the importation or injection of blood or blood products contaminated with hepatitis C virus, and the carrier rate of hepatitis C virus in China is 2%, or 24 million carriers. If left untreated, 70% of acute hepatitis C can become chronic, and 20-30% of chronic active hepatitis C can develop into cirrhosis or liver cancer. The number of deaths due to liver disease in China is about 350,000 per year. Half of them are primary liver cancer, and hepatitis B has become an infectious disease with the most extensive and serious consequences for the health of our people.”
