Lung CT is not recommended for young people because they are preparing for pregnancy or are pregnant. Lung CT can visualize lung tissue and determine whether a young person has lung disease, but lung CT has a certain amount of radiation, which may interfere with the preparation for pregnancy if the young person is in the process of preparing for pregnancy. If a young person is pregnant, a lung CT may affect the development of the embryo or baby, so it is not recommended that a young person have a lung CT during pregnancy or preparation. If a young person is not currently preparing for pregnancy and is not in the middle of a pregnancy, a lung CT test can usually be done, and the young person should truthfully inform the doctor of his or her medical condition before having a lung CT test.
