What to do if you take capecitabine tablets for abdominal pain

Abdominal pain after taking capecitabine tablets should be stopped immediately and you should go to the hospital promptly. The drug has a selective targeting effect and is an oral chemotherapeutic drug against tumor cells. It has no cytotoxicity itself, and can be activated into cytotoxic 5-fluorouracil in tumor cells through a three-step enzyme chain reaction, thus minimizing the damage of 5-fluorouracil to normal human cells. Clinically the drug is used for adjuvant chemotherapy of gastric, colon, colorectal and breast cancer. Adverse reactions such as headache, nausea, anorexia, abdominal pain, fatigue, and arthralgia have been observed with the drug. It is contraindicated in patients with previous severe, unintended reactions to fluoropyrimidine or known hypersensitivity to fluoropyrimidine; it is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment. Patients with severe diarrhea should be closely monitored, and fluids and electrolytes should be replenished immediately if dehydration begins to occur; do not drive machines, vehicles, ships, engage in aerial work, mechanical work and operation of precision instruments during the period of drug administration; use with caution in pregnant women and nursing mothers. If medication is needed, it should be used under the guidance of a specialist.
