Can all patients with carotid artery stenosis undergo surgery?

Can all patients with carotid stenosis undergo carotid endarterectomy? Yes. Generally speaking, carotid endarterectomy can be performed as long as the patient’s physical condition allows it. However, in the case of uncontrollable hypertension with blood pressure higher than 180/110 mmHg, surgery is not recommended for the time being, provided that the blood pressure is not well controlled. For those who are within 6 months after myocardial infarction, it is not easy to operate for the time being. For those who are especially obese and have ankylosis of the neck, it is not easy to operate because of their postural restrictions and difficulties in exposing blood vessels during surgery. Surgery is also not recommended for patients with chronic renal failure, severe pulmonary insufficiency, hepatic insufficiency, or advanced malignant tumors.
