What do children with gill slit (including pear-shaped fistula) need to know after surgery?

If your child has a gill fissure (with pyriform fistula) and has successfully completed the first surgical treatment and is currently in stable condition, our doctors are truly happy for your child. However, there are some precautions that you should keep in mind when you go home and follow them strictly. Our doctors and parents will work together to make your child recover as soon as possible. First of all, for oral care, children should rinse their mouths with saline every day, and older children should rinse their mouths with chlorhexidine mouthwash every 3 hours. Secondly, the antibiotics prescribed by the doctor for the child should be used until after the surgery7 and taken according to the doctor’s prescription. In addition, come to the outpatient clinic for review at 2 weeks after surgery, remove the gastric tube and gradually transition from semi-liquid food to regular food, and insist on taking omeprazole enteric dissolved tablets (1mg/kg once a day) orally before removing the tube. Finally, please bring your child to the outpatient clinic for follow-up 1 month after surgery and make an appointment to be hospitalized again for general anesthesia supported laryngoscopic exploration of the pear-shaped fossa. The treatment of pyriform fistula may require multiple laryngoscopic explorations and cautery under general anesthesia, which requires long-term cooperation between the child, the doctor, and the parents, so please keep these precautions in mind. We hope you will keep the above precautions in mind and visit the hospital for review on a regular basis. Finally, we sincerely hope that our joint efforts will bring your child back to health as quickly as possible.
