What you should be concerned about before vocal cord surgery

Many patients with benign proliferative lesions of the larynx need surgical treatment, and they all think that if they are removed surgically, they will be able to regain a normal voice. However, some patients do not have what they wish for, so preoperative evaluation is very important because many voice disorders are closely related to systemic conditions and other systemic lesions, and therefore, preoperative systemic and specialty examinations are very important. Systemic assessment: 1. Understand the relationship between dysphonia and many factors such as occupation, age, gender and vocal habits; 2. The relationship between hormone levels and voice diseases, such as some female patients with obvious aggravation of dysphonia before menstruation, and localized congestion or hemorrhage of the vocal folds, at this time the surgery should be put on hold; a small number of patients (e.g., vocal folds with Rinker’s edema) may be combined with hypothyroidism at the same time, and for this kind of suspected patients, appropriate examinations and symptomatic treatment should be carried out prior to the surgery. For such suspected patients, corresponding examination and symptomatic treatment should be carried out; 3. Metabolic factors; 4. Psychological factors should be considered at the same time, and the patient should understand the long-term effect of the surgery and the recovery time, and should not be anxious; 5. For patients with pharyngeal reflux signs, anti-reflux treatment before and after the surgery is particularly important.
