Freckles are usually found in young and middle-aged women, often distributed around the forehead, cheeks, cheeks, nose and eyes, mostly symmetrically. The lesions are light brown to brownish-black patches, irregular in shape, with clear edges, flat on the skin, without itching and pain, typically in a butterfly-shaped distribution on both sides of the cheeks. It is aggravated in spring, summer and after sun exposure, and reduced or disappeared in autumn and winter. Histopathological examination shows hyperpigmentation in the epidermis, more pigmentation in the melanophilic cells in the epidermis, and a few lymphocytes infiltrating around the blood vessels and hair follicles. According to Chinese medicine, the cause is mainly due to emotional disorders, liver depression and qi stagnation, strain on the spleen and earth, and external exposure to wind, resulting in imbalance of yin and yang, imbalance of qi and blood, imbalance of viscera and meridians, and failure of qi and blood to glory in the face. Acupuncture is a unique means of treating diseases in Chinese medicine. It is a treatment method of “treating from the outside to the inside”, through the action of meridians, acupoints and certain techniques, to regulate the overall state of the body from the inside, so as to achieve the effect of eliminating freckles.
