Does nifurtimox have side effects

Nifurtimox is mainly used for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, candidal vulvovaginosis, and mixed vaginal infections. Mild side effects of vulvar burning, vaginal dryness, and nausea may occur after the use of the drug. If burning, redness or swelling occurs at the site of the medication, stop the medication immediately, rinse the area and consult your physician if necessary. Do not drink alcoholic beverages during the medication. Alcohol can cause discomfort or nausea, but this reaction will go away on its own. You should avoid menstruation when using the medication and should avoid sexual intercourse during the medication period. To prevent recurrence, the male partner should also be treated at the same time, either with oral tablets or ointment of nifurtimox.
